The weather is rolling in and for Kyle Tanner and his would be friends it hasn’t even begun to come down. When a mysterious noise rolls in from a neighboring town along with the dense smog from a Chemical Plant explosion people begin to die. But that is the least of their worries. Trapped inside a small local grocery store they watch in horror as those left out in the weather blister from head to toe with unimaginable sores. And when it couldn’t seem to get any worse, this small band of survivors are forced outside to face the mutilated madness!

Watchers PA Douglas 9781469940458 Books

Watchers by P.A. Douglas is more like the beginning of a full-length novel rather than a complete story. I'm not sure if the author intends to turn this into a series, but I think he should. The zombies are unlike anything I've ever encountered in any previous novels. While that aspect is extremely original, the story still reminded me of The Mist by Stephen King.

Douglas wastes no time releasing the horror from above, but his choice of main character is questionable. Kyle is not a very lovable person, and I didn't necessarily care if he lived or died. I was mostly curious if he would somehow become a better man.

Not sure if I will follow up with this author or not because I was originally looking for something with a more clear ending...too many loosee nds for my liking.

Watchers PA Douglas 9781469940458 Books Reviews

'Watchers' is an humorously, intense, gory thrillride. Hard to put down. Although a bit abruptly ended; It is highly recommended!
Unlike anything i have read from Douglas before. This novella strikes fear into your heart! Truly a work of art and quite possibly my favorite from Douglas so far. I always look forward to checking out [...] and finding that he has blessed us with another terrifying creation.
I find this a tough one to rate. I liked the story, and it was told at a good pace. I did like the unique type of zombie in the story. However, I really never cared about any of the characters. And the ending wasn't what I was expecting. I was actually a little disappointed with it.
This book, from start to finish is fantastic. I for one, find it hard to ever pick up a book that keeps me entertained. With that said, within the past 2 days, i have read 4 of P.A. Douglas' books. all so far were fantastic. Gripping story lines, characters, that you learn to hate/love, all within a revolving story. This book was no different than the rest. Yes the main character is a screw up waste of life, but that is what makes the story. Not everyone in a zombie/end of the world story is going to be a rambo military soldier. The main characters of all of his stories are average joe's that face horrible events in their life. I WILL RECOMMEND EVERY BOOK FROM PA DOUGLAS. from this, to the dark man, to killer koala bears from another dimension, they are all grossly intriguing and gory stories. props to you P.A. Douglas. keep the stories rolling.
This book grabbed me from the beginning, introducing the main character and keeping me interested in what he was doing. From there, the "events" unfold and it's one fun adventure filled with a great, diverse cast of characters, including some really nasty zombie-like creatures that make "normal" zombies tame by comparison. But this is more than an "outbreak" type of book and Douglas does a great job with reveals along the way. It's a fast read that you won't be able to put down.
I was hugely disappointed in this book. The writing itself was very awkward and took me out of the story. There are way, too many, commas, in nearly, every, sentence, for example. The characters were either silly or unsympathetic. The "twist" of the nature of the zombies was nearly directly lifted from Brian Keene's The Rising (and anyone writing modern zombie fiction who claims they've never read this book is a liar), but was awkwardly and confusingly explained (why would a web forum about chemical weapons have a thread about supernatural beings?). I give it two stars for the gruesomeness and originality of the zombies themselves.

I have heard good things about Mr. Douglas so I will give one of his other books a shot, but my first impressions based on Watchers are negative.
This is another one of those "free ebooks" offered on which allows me to explore other genres without much risk. I don't normally read horror and zombie stories, but found myself hooked on "Watchers" within the first few pages. I expected it to evolve into a similar storyline like "The Fog" after the main characters find themselves trapped inside of a grocery store when a thick fog suddenly envelopes the neighborhood. Those outside are suffering and howling while experiencing a transformation from the effects of the fog; turning them into blistering, burned remnants of their former selves. Unlike other zombie stories, these "walking dead" are much different; they're faster, smarter, more deadly and can speak - oh and they communicate with each other telepathically. A simple touch is all that is needed to turn a normal human into one of these creatures. Therefore, to escape and evade, this small group must protect themselves from both the environment and the creatures. No hazard suits? Improvise!

The author shows his creativity throughout the story by having a plot that continuously twists and turns. Who are these "Watchers? Are they aliens from outer space? Are they made-made? Can they be demons from hell itself? Where is sanctuary and how does this small group of survivors get there? Who will die during their escape from the market? Who will survive until the end?

The book is difficult to put down because it is a fast-moving story - unlike other zombie books that I've read. My only disappointment is that the ending still left me with unanswered questions as it seems to end abruptly. I also deleted one star due to typos that exist throughout the text. However, it is a great story and well worth reading. Great job Mr. Douglas!
